Roger & I48 Colleagues on the lasting Influence of Roger Souvereyns

Roger Souvereyns is one of the most influential kitchen chefs in Belgian history. Roger & I is the story of a career spanning 65 years. More than forty chefs and sommeliers testify to the lasting influence that his exceptional talent, visionary approach and charismatic personality have left on them. Respectfully, enthusiastically and at times critically, they look back on their time spent in the Scholteshof restaurant. At the same time, each from his own experience depicts Roger Souvereyns as a one-of-a-kind chef, who was a generation ahead of his time.

Roger & I offers a very special retrospective of and insight into the ‘Souvereyns school’, together with more than forty contemporary recipes. Originally conceived as a homage, Roger & I has become simultaneously a captivating time capsule, a testimony that will not only fascinate and inspire those who work in and around restaurant kitchens, but also entrepreneurs and professionals operating outside of our food culture.

Marc Declercq enjoys writing about food just as much as he enjoys eating it. Many of his books have won international awards, including (amongst others) the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2009 and the World Food Media Award in 2005. In 2007 he was nominated for the Flemish Cultural Prize in the category ‘food culture’.
